Comfortable walking shoes. Plan to be on your feet a lot each day!
Layers are great for long days when the weather can change drastically from morning to afternoon, think lightweight shirts, jackets, etc.
1-2 “dress up outfits” for special events/dinners.
Rain jacket. Less clunky than an umbrella and you can keep your hands free! If you’re visiting during summer, be sure to also bring a small umbrella. Can’t fit it in your bag? No worries! You can buy one there for fairly cheap – around 5 USD.
Scarf (lightweight). It is to be used when visiting churches, museums, etc. where your shoulders must be covered.
Small backpack or drawstring bag for carrying around things like sunscreen & water bottles on day trips & excursions. A full-size backpack is nice too for longer trips – you might already plan on bringing one as your carry-on.
Shower shoes for shared showers at hostels whether staying in a hostel is part of your program or travel plans or not, it’s always good to have a pair of rubber flip-flops just in case!
Travel size toiletries you never know where your checked bag may choose to take a side trip and meet you in-country later, so be sure you have some basics to get you through 1-2 days in case your checked luggage gets delayed
Summer in South Korea at Sogang University or Kyung Hee University
Summer in South Korea is warm & humid, so pack lighter clothes! The temperatures can range from 20-30 degrees Celsius.
Bring comfortable walking shoes for Seoul, especially for the Seoul city tour and for walking around various markets & shops
Bring a bottle of sunscreen to start you off. Many skincare products are meant to whiten skin in Korea, so finding a generic sunscreen without a whitening effect can sometimes be tricky, though not impossible
Bring a small backpack or drawstring bag for carrying around things like sunscreen & water bottles on longer day trips & excursions
Bring a reusable water bottle to lower the cost of spending on beverages, and to be more environmentally friendly!
Summer is the rainy season in Korea, too! Be sure to bring a small umbrella. Can’t fit it in your bag? No worries! You can buy one there for fairly cheap - around 5 USD.
People in Seoul tend to dress a little bit nicer, and fashion & appearance are sometimes valued over comfort in South Korea, unlike in the USA. If you really want to fit in, leave your sweatpants at home! Bringing a simple button-down shirt and some nicer jeans will help you feel more integrated into Seoul city life. Longer pants and sleeves are important for entering temples

Bring a few travel-sized toiletries to start you off: like shampoo, facewash, and soap. You can replenish your items there. If you have a sensitivity to certain soaps or you use specific creams, prescription creams, or any special product - you should try to bring that with you for the duration of your semester.
Pack layers! The temperature in Korea will likely change from warm to cold, or cold to warm, depending on when you’re there. You might want to bring a light jacket for the winter and fall season since the weather can be a bit brisk.
Essential Items – don’t forget these!

Copy of your passport to carry with you at all times
Student/University Identification Card
Pepto-Bismol/Imodium, Advil, or other over-the-counter drugs, you know your body and what you may need!
Prescription medications: Carry any prescription medications in the prescription bottle with the original label and not mixed into one bag or container!
Personal Journal
Laptops/tablets, if necessary

We do not suggest bringing any valuable jewelry or items, but if you must, it is safer to carry them on rather than put them in your checked luggage.
