Safety Tips in Korea

You are living in a foreign country. Culture and language are different from yours. Even the safest locations may carry more risk to your safety and health.

    • Travel in groups of 2 or more especially at night and in residential areas.
    • Do not abuse alcohol. Be aware of yourself, your drinks and your belongings in Hongdae and Itaewon.
    • Be aware of crowds at all times
    • Watch your time: last train is around 12-1am and taxis can be difficult to get. Do not leave your friends behind.
    • Watch your valuables at all times. Passport in a safe place, wallet, credit cards, cash, phone etc. Carry a scan of your passport at all times.
    • Stay away from trouble and do not get into fights.
    • Drink lots of water and be mindful of the weather.
    • When cooking, be careful when using knives and hot items.
    • Carry your health insurance documents with you always.
    •  Be careful when riding a bike and when crossing the street.

Earthquake Safety

  • Do not move until the main quake stops. Protect yourself by sheltering under a table. Protect your head with a cushion.
  • Turn off all heat sources. Shut off any gas sources.
  • Secure a way to evacuate the premises. Wear shoes. When you evacuate, walk. Always take the stairs. Follow people to a safe location.
  • When on a train, grab a bar or strap to prevent it from falling. Follow instructions.
  • Don’t panic.
  • Contact Site Director as soon as possible to check in.
